February 5th 2026 - Gymnastics continues with Joe
Gymnastics continued today. Everyone is really loving it, and making great progress!



January 22nd - Gymnastics
Gymnastics continued today as part of our PE curriculum. It's really turning out to be an enjoyable way to keep active on a Thursday afternoon, especially with the rainy weather outside!



January 13th 2026 - Boys Hurling Training
Our senior boys have been training hard at lunchtimes in anticipation of the Cumann na mBunscoil Final in Fenagh on January 15th. We're privilaged to have the use of the astroturf, which really makes winter training much easier.

January 9th 2026 - Hurling training - 2nd - 6th
All children from 2nd to 6th class have started hurling training at lunchtime on the new astroturf. There are absolutely plenty of future stars among them!



January 8th 2026 - Gymnastics
Today we started gymnastics as part of our PE program with Joe from School Fitness Ireland. Everybody really gave it there all, and really enjoyed it.


November 26th 2025 - Girls indoor camogie blitz
Well done to the 4th, 5th & 6th Class girls who played fantastic matches at todays indoor girls camogie blitz with Drummond, Borris and Newtown. Well done girls- we are very proud of you!


October 21st 2026 - Girls Cumann na mBunscoil Final
A huge well done to our fantastic girls who represented Scoil Moling-Glynn so brilliantly in the Cumann na mBunscol Football Final this evening! π

October 1st 2025 - Open Primary Schools Cross Country
Well done to our 5th & 6th class boys and girls who represented our school so well at today's Open Primary Schools Cross Country event in Carlow Hurling Club.

September 12th 2025 - Shelter equipment & Summer Fete 2025

A huge thank you to all pupils and parents who donated so generously to our Summer Fete in June.
Some of the money raised was donated to a very worthy charity- Pieta House
The remaining funds were used to purchase new equipment for our outside shelter. The pupils have been have great fun trying out all the new equipment over the last couple of days.
Thank you all for your support.



August 27th 2025 - Under 12's camogie
Comhghairdeas to the 5th and 6th Class girls who were part of the U12 Camogie team who won their A final on Tuesday night. Well done Kate, Ella, Alicea, Pippa & Kayla π

June 25th - Cllr. Tommy Kinsella funding
Cllr. Tommy Kinsella very kindly gave the school a sum of money to purchase sports equipment. We bought a tennis net, sacks for sports day, a tug of war rope and various other bits and pieces. We're very grateful for this money to help us to add to our active schools equipment. We wouldn't have been able to run our sports day without it. We also bought some table tennis sets for our classrooms, which will be really useful on rainy lunchbreaks.

June 13th 2025 - ASW Day 5 - Sports Day
Today at the pitch in Bahana, we held our sports day along with Newtown NS and Drummond NS. Everyone was broken into coloured teams, and the schools were mixed in the teams. There were lots of events throughout the morning such as sprints, tug of war, wellie throw, sack race, egg and spoon race and 3-legged race. In the afternoon there were roudners games between the teams. There was an ice cream van at lunchtime. Everyone really had a great day.

June 12th 2025 - ASW Day 4 - Basketball
Today for Day 4 of our active schools week, we had a basketball shooting competition. It was again between the Nore, Barrow and Suir house teams. We were all really surprised at home many people were able to score so accurately! It was a little rainy today, but we didn't mind.

June 11th 2025 - ASW Day 3 - Orienteering
Today we ran a whole school orienteering competition, again in our house groups. We had our map of the school that the children created at the start of the year, and everyone had a set of clues. The clues were all maths puzzles. The winning team were the group who completed the course the quickest. Here are some pictures of the event:




June 10th 2025 - ASW Day 2 - Penalty Shoot Out
Today in school as part of Active Schools Week we had a penalty shoot out. We took turns of being in goals, and everybody had 3 shots. Winners stayed on, and went into a final. Winners scored points for their teams.

June 9th 2025 - ASW Day 1 - Rounders
Today was the first day of our Active Schools Week. We all were in our house teams, and we worked together in a big game of roudners. Everybody in the school got involved, and it was a really great start to the week. We were lucky that the weather was so fine. Here are some pictures:



Outdoor Chess - May 16th 2025
Today the weather was so fine, that we decided to take our Friday afternoon 'golden time' chess tournament outside to the fresh air! It really was a beautiful day, and any time we can spend outdoors is great for our health and wellbeing.




Bike Week, Balance Bikes - May 14th
Bike Week - May 12th
This week is National Bike Week, organised by the National Transport Authority. In Scoil Moling, we kicked off with everybody bringing in their own bikes or scooters, and laid out a road network on the ball court. Our road network had stop signs, yield signs, a pedestrian crossing and various turns and bends to navigate.




PAWS Water Safety Training - May 7th
Today we were joined by Rosie O'Regan from Water Safety Ireland to give us PAWS training (Primary Aquatic Water Safety). We spent some time in the classroom, with Rosie teaching us all about the various hazards around our homes and farms, as well as out and about. She also have us some great life saving tips on how to use life jackets. Then we went outside and practice throwing life rings, and ropes which hopefully we will never have to use! It was a really great day, and everyone was grateful to Rosie for helping us to finish the course.








Carlow GAA Hurling - May 6th
Today Rob & Richie joined us from Carlow GAA to continue on our training, which we started with Brendan Hayden last week. Everyone always enjoys a bit of hurling in Scoil Moling, especially when it's in the sunshine, and especially when it's competitive!


Skip Around Europe Update - May 2nd

This week we started Hurling with Carlow GAA GDA, Brendan Hayden. We had really fantastic weather, and it was a great opportunity for everybody in Scoil Moling to get involved in Hurling with such a top class coach.

Skip Around Europe Update - April 11th
Old School Games - Carlow Sports Partnership - April 8th
Today, Carlow Sports Partnership came to us to teach us some old style school games. Each class went out individually first and ran egg and spoon races, sack races, three legged races and wheelbarrow races. Then, the whole school came out and we got into our house teams and competed for points. Everyone had a really fantastic day, and we're really grateful for Carlow Sports Partnership for coming in to us.






Skip Around Europe Update - April 4th
We've completed a week of our skipping around Europe challenge for Active Schools - and everyone can skip now! It's a huge achievement, especially considering some people had never skipped before! We're really proud of everybody!


Skip Around Europe - March 31st
Today we have started the Active Schools Skip Around Europe Challenge. Each day we will all spend 5-10 minutes skipping. We started today by watching some videos and learning the basics of skipping. Around half of the school are able to skip, and the others are very keen to learn. We then went outside and practiced some skipping. It'll take a bit of practice, but we all really look forward to being able to skip!
The Active Schools Committee are keeping a tally of how many skips we are all getting each day, and writing a total inside each classroom.


Hurling with Paul Dempsey - Final Session - March 27th 2025
Today was our final hurling session with Paul Dempsey from the club. We are so grateful for all Paul has taught us over the past few weeks.

FAI Blitz - March 20th
Well done to our boys and girls in 5th & 6th class who participated in today’s FAI Primary 5’s soccer blitz.
We had a great day in the sunshine π

Lá Glas Obstacle Course - March 14th
As part of our Seachtain na Gaeilge / St. Patrick's Day celebrations, we held a 'Lá Glas' in school. Everybody dressed up in green, and the Active Schools Committee held a number of events to keep everybody moving. They ran an obstacle course, as well as a Céilí on the Ball Court. We are focusing on 'Dance' as part of our PE curriculum for March, and so today was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our dancing skills to the whole school! We also ran our Daily Mile dressed in green, so it really was an action packed day! Here are some pictures of the event.







Hurling Returns with Paul Dempsey - March 6th 2025
World book day was today, and everybody dressed up as characters from their favourite books. Nobody let their costumes get the way of hurling though, and despite the ice cold wind and some not-so-warm costumes, everyone had a ball!



World Book Day Orienteering - March 6th 2025
Today the whole school took part in a World Book Day Orienteering challenge. Each team were given a map of the school (drawn by the children themselves), and a start point. They needed to solve clues based on book characters, and navigate their way to the next point on the course. They then used the orienteering control point stamps to mark their cards. Each team were timed around the course also. Here are some pictures of the event:






Spring has arrived! - March 3rd 2025
Spring has well at truly arrived at Scoil Moling, Glynn, and we've been once again blessed with clear crisp days, and the backdrop of the Blackstairs Mountains and Mount Leinster. Today everyone was relieved and excited that the grass has dried out enough to play football on it once again! We're extremely fortunate to have the ball court to play on over winter, but everyone will agree that there's nothing quite like playing on the grass!



Move More in March - Active Break Every Day Challenge - March 3rd 2025
Today everyone at Scoil Moling started the Active Break Every Day Challenge, which we'll completing for the 4 weeks of March. The idea is that we take a couple of minutes out of each today to put down the pencils, get out of our seats and get moving! The Active Schools Committee are coordinating each rooms efforts. There's some pictures from the Middle Room's first day of Active Breaks below.

The Daily Mile Update - February 26th 2025
We've been getting out after break and using our Active Schools Walkway again today to complete the daily mile. Active Schools committee were at the front and back of the group to help everybody, particularly the infant class.

What Club Are You In? - February 24th 2025
The Active Schools Committee organised a survey across the school to find out what clubs everybody was involved in, and what sports they played outside school. They also asked everyone what they liked to do to keep active in their free time.
The committee then analysed all of the information, and presented it in the form of a bar chart on the Active Schools noticeboard. Take a look and see how we're keeping active!

All three rooms have been working hard on Gymnastics with Caoimhe Sheil from Torque Gymnastics, Kilkenny. Here are a couple of pictures from the classes.




Cumann na mBunscol Quiz - January 17th
Well done to Dylan, Jay, Liam and Ryan from the Senior Room who represented our school so well in today’s Cumann na mBunscol Sports Quiz. It took place in the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow.


Gymnastics Starting Tomorrow - January 16th
Gymnastics is starting tomorrow for all classes. It will be delivered by Caoimhe Sheil of Torque Gymnastics, Kilkenny. Cuirfear na ceachteanna ar fáil trí Ghaeilge. Táimid ag súil go mór le go leor spraoi a bheith againn!

Christmas Relays - December 19th
The whole school got outside today to enjoy the fine weather, and an obstacle course organised by the Active Schools Committee. Everybody was in their school teams (Nore, Barrow and Suir), and ran their hardest to win points for their team. On this occasion it was a draw between Barrow and Suir, so Barrow remain in the lead with 82 points!

Less Stress More Chess - December 13th 2024
Chess fever is spreading! We've bought 10 new chess sets for the school, and now up to 20 children can be spotted playing chess in the great outdoors at lunchtime! The cold ground doesn't seem to bother them at all, despite suggestions to use the benches! Well done everyone!



Cumann na mBunscol Camogie - December 4th
Congratulations to Senior girls who took part in the Cumann na mbunscoil indoor camogie blitz today. It took place on home turn in Bahana, St. Mullins. A fantastic afternoon was had by all!

Outdoor Chess - November 26th 2024
Some of the children at Scoil Moling have decided to take chess into the great outdoors, and enjoy playing and learning at breaktime! We've been fortunate enough to have such good weather for this.

Senior Hurling Blitz - November 25th 2024
Senior boys took part in a Cumann na mBunscol hurling blitz in Bahana, St. Mullins. They competed against Ballymurphy, Borris, Newtown and Drummond schools. Well done everyone!

Green and White Day - November 15th 2024
We were delighted to host a 'Green and White' day in order to support St. Mullins in the 2024 AIB Leinster Club SHC Quarter Final against Kilcormac Killoughey this Sunday, November 17th.


Swimming Resumes - November 4th 2024
Swimming for all from 1st to 6th class resumes tomorrow, Tuesday November 5th. It will take place in the Apex in New Ross, and will run until December 17th.

Naomh Moling Abú - October 11th 2024
Players from the victorious intermediate and senior panels in St. Mullins, as well as trainers and under 14 panel members. The whole school assembled in the middle room, and were mesmerised and starstruck while they asked their lists of questions to the lads! Thank you so much for coming in!



Clár Funding - Grant for school Astroturf - October 7th 2024
Wow! We have been extremely fortunate to have been awarded a grant of €45,000! It will go towards building an Astroturf behind the current ballcourt in the school yard. This is really fantastic news for the school, and we are grateful to everyone involved for making it happen.

#RelaysTakeOver - September 27th 2024
The Active Schools Committee worked really hard this week organising the whole school into teams, and setting up relay races. This was part of the Active Schools Relays Takeover, a national event across participating active schools flag schools. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, and everyone had an absolute ball. The Daily Mile - September 2024
Here in Scoil Moling we're taking part in the Daily Mile Challenge. As much as the weather allows, we're going to talk, jog or run a mile 3 times a week - that will be 5km a week! We're going to do it in two halves, half a mile after small break, and half a mile after big break. We are using our Active Schools Walkway signposts to guide us around the lap. Three laps is a half mile.


School Teams - September 12th 2024
The Active Schools Committee have met for the first time since being elected, and one of their first jobs was to put everybody in the school onto a team. They've decided to go with three teams, and they will be Nore, Barrow and Suir. You can see the teams below. Good luck everybody this year!

September 2024 - New Equipment
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to another Active year at Scoil Moling, Glynn. Funds from our Active Schools No Uniform Day in May were used to purchase new equipment for our PE shed. A big thank you to all families for their generosity.

Our Active School Week takes place from the 29th of April to the 3rd of May.

Playground leaders are out at lunch. We wear whistles and blue vests. We play fun games and activities. We hope everyone is enjoying it! - Kayla, 3rd Class
As part of our Active School activities, we are doing a Run around Europe. This helps us to stay active by doing laps and learning about countries in Europe. So far we have ran around The United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic and Italy- Éabha, 2nd Class
10 @10 is something that every class does every Wednesday. We do it at 10 o’clock. We do some exercise or a dance, - Lily, 3rd Class

EXCITING NEWS!
Our Active School Committee has been very busy coordinating #RunAroundEurope over the past month. Today, we concluded with our Easter Challenge. This morning, we received some very exciting news!! In recognition of our commitment and participation, Scoil Moling-Glynn won the Participation Award in the Leinster category and we will receive a CLIMBING WALL for our school. Watch the video here-

We are delighted with the fantastic news and we look forward to lots more activity in Term 3 once our climbing wall is installed.
February 2024
This month we've started playground leaders which we do every Thursday at big break. We have also started 10@10 which we do on Wednesdays.
Our last meeting was on St. Brigid’s Day and our next will be on Thursday, 22nd February.
As playground leaders, we think of games to play with one of our classrooms. Some of the games we have played are obstacle courses, Man from Mars, Simon Says, Stuck in the Mud and rounders. During 10 @10, we do 10 minutes of exercise at 10 o’clock on Wednesday every week- Luke,5th Class

The Active School Committee organised a No Uniform Day in December to show our support for St.Mullins GAA Club as they continue to develop their facilities. We are very grateful to the club for their support with all things active in our school.

October 2023
In October we held a poster competition to select a slogan for the school to be fit, active and healthy. James (1st Class)was our winner of the competition. All posters are on display around the school to remind children to keep active.
